Free Family Weekend Events List for August 1 – 2, 2015

SATURDAY, AUGUST 1

Dye Garden Family Art Day

@ Textile Center

Time: 10am-2pm
Ages: The whole family is welcome
Details: Come play in the Textile Center’s natural plant dye garden, create a macrame plant hanger and bring a miniature garden home. Refreshments will be provided.

Walker First Free Saturday: Global Games

@ Walker Art Center
1750 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, 55403

Time: Activities run 10am-3pm, galleries open until 5pm.
Ages: Activities are geared towards kids ages 6-12, but don’t let that stop you from bringing your littler ones!
Details: Free gallery admission for the whole family every first Saturday of the month at the Walker. This month’s activities celebrate a collection of cultures with live arts, crafts, games from around the world, and mini dance workshops. Programs will take place out in the Sculpture Garden.

Owanmi: Falling Water Festival
@ Father Hennepin Bluffs Park
420 SE Main St, Minneapolis, 55414

Time: 4-8pm
Details: This free and family-friendly event celebrates Indigenous Minnesota culture with music, art, food, and more. Try your hand at lacrosse; view artifacts from Minnesota History Center’s collection; and enjoy live music from a variety of Indigenous voices.

Storywalk: One Dog Canoe

@ Como Regional Park Lakeside Pavilion
1360 N. Lexington Parkway, Saint Paul, MN 55108

Time: 1-3pm
Details: Pages from the local author Mary Casanova’s picture book will be posted along park paths so you can read as you walk. Join in hands-on nature activities that complement the book themes.

“PUPPY PIRATES Party!” with Erin Soderberg

Time: 2pm
Details: Celebrate the Paws on Grand event and the launch of local author Erin Soderberg’s new Puppy Pirates series with refreshments, pirate activities and a chance to meet the author. Pets are apparently welcome, though I’m guessing not inside the shop.

Free Family Fun Day: Miniature Enchanted Forests
@ Carl Kroening Interpretive Center, North Mississippi Regional Park
4900 Mississippi Court, Minneapolis, 55430

Time: 1-3pm
Ages: Kids under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
Details: Drop in any time between 1-3pm and take a closer look at the tiny plants of the floodplain forest. Free Family Fun Day is offered Sundays year-round.
